Add the NetWorthTrackr MCP server to Claude Code
Run claude mcp add --transport http --scope user networthtrackr https://mcp.networthtrackr.com, then type /mcp in a session and authenticate. NetWorthTrackr is then available in every project, so Claude Code can read your net worth, accounts and holdings, and record balances when you ask, right next to your files.
Add it for every project
--scope userstores the server in your own Claude Code settings, so it is there in every project rather than only the folder you ran the command in. Your finances are yours, not a repo's, so this is the right default.
Terminal
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user networthtrackr https://mcp.networthtrackr.com
- Start a session with
claudeand type/mcp. - Select networthtrackr, then Authenticate. A browser window opens: sign in to NetWorthTrackr and approve.
- Back in the session, ask "What is my net worth?" to check it works.
What it is good for in the terminal
Claude Code can combine your real figures with local files, which a chat app cannot:
- “Build a spreadsheet of my net worth by month for the last year from NetWorthTrackr.”
- “Check my FIRE plan in plan.md against my actual history and tell me if the assumptions hold.”
- “Read statements/ and record this month's closing balances for each account.”
Claude Code asks for permission the first time each tool runs. Approve the read tools once; keep the ones that change data on ask.
If something goes wrong
“Server already exists”. Remove it with claude mcp remove networthtrackr --scope user and add it again.
Authentication opens but never completes. Finish the sign-in in the browser window Claude Code opened, then run /mcp again to see the status.
The tools are missing in one project. A project-scoped server with the same name takes precedence there. Check with claude mcp list.
Common questions
The default scope only covers the folder you are in. Your net worth is not part of any one project, so user scope makes it available everywhere and keeps it out of shared project config.
No. Claude Code has its own connection and sign-in. Adding it here does not add it to claude.ai, and the other way round.
Run claude mcp remove networthtrackr --scope user.
