What "free" usually costs you
Free financial software is rarely charity. It is worth knowing which model you are signing up to, because it determines what happens to your data and what the product is really optimising for.
Common free models
- Free tool as a lead magnet for advisory services
- Advertising, often for financial products
- Aggregated data sold on to third parties
- A free tier crippled enough to force an upgrade
None of these are inherently dishonest. They do mean the product has a second customer.
How this one works
- Every feature free, for everyone
- No advertising anywhere in the product
- No data sold, aggregated or otherwise
- No feature held back, no tiers at all
You are the only person this product answers to.
What you get without paying anything
This is a working tracker, not a demo. Log every asset and liability you own, record balances over time, and read your net worth chart and history. There is no cap on how long you keep using it and no card on file.
The parts that cost us money to run are included too: automatic pricing for stocks, ETFs and crypto, nightly conversion across 31 currencies, the analytics suite with category and currency breakdowns, and the portfolio health score.
Nothing is held back. There are no tiers, no locked charts and no account limits — and your data is exportable and deletable at any time, so nothing is held hostage either.
Free, and still no bank login
Most free trackers pay for themselves with the data that flows through a bank connection. This one has no bank connection at all, so there is no aggregated transaction feed here to package up and sell in the first place.
You enter balances yourself. Market holdings price themselves from public data. Nothing about the free plan requires you to hand over a credential, and nothing about it makes your data the product.
What "free" includes here, and what it usually means elsewhere
| NetWorthTrackr | Typical free tracker | |
|---|---|---|
| Assets and liabilities | Unlimited, with full history | Often capped |
| Automatic market prices | Stocks, ETFs and crypto, included | Commonly a paid tier |
| Currencies | 31, converted nightly | Usually one base currency free |
| Analytics suite | Categories, currency, monthly, performance | Overview free, the rest paid |
| Portfolio health score | Included | Typically a premium feature |
| Bank login required | Never | Usually required to be useful |
| Card required to start | No | Often required for the trial |
| Ads and data selling | Neither, ever | Commonly one or both |
What matters is checkable rather than promised: no advertising, no data sale, no bank connection to harvest, and an export button that works today.
Common questions
