App comparisons

If your money sits in more than one country, the tracker that suits you is the one that keeps each account in its own currency, converts everything into one home currency, and does not depend on a bank feed that only covers one country. Kubera does that with bank sync, for $250 a year. NetWorthTrackr does it manually, free, in 31 currencies. Below are six options compared on exactly those points, and who should skip each. We make one of them.

## What an expat needs that most trackers miss

- **Each account in its own currency.** A UK pension stays in pounds and a Dubai savings account in dirhams. Converting at entry and storing the result hides every exchange-rate move afterwards.
- **One home currency you choose.** Usually the one you will retire or spend in, which may not be where you live now. You should be able to change it later.
- **Coverage in every country you bank in.** Bank-sync apps work only where their aggregator has coverage. Empower links US institutions only and needs a US phone number; Monarch covers the US and Canada.
- **Room for the odd local account.** CPF, end-of-service gratuity, an Indian PPF or a Dutch pension rarely appear in any bank feed, so you will add some accounts by hand whatever app you pick.

## Six options compared

| App | Price | Several currencies | How balances update | Skip it if |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| NetWorthTrackr | Free | Yes, 31, converted nightly | You enter them; stocks, ETFs and crypto price themselves | You want balances to sync from your banks |
| Kubera | $250 a year | Yes, throughout | Bank sync through several aggregators worldwide, or by hand | The price is more than the job is worth to you |
| TrackMyStack | Free; Premium $3.99 a month | Yes; each portfolio has its own currency | You enter them; 200,000+ tickers price themselves | Most of your wealth is property and pensions, not a portfolio |
| Worth It | Free | Yes, daily rates | You enter them | You want shares to price themselves |
| PopaDex | Free in one currency; Premium $5 a month | Premium only | By hand, or optional connections on Premium | You need several currencies for free |
| Finary | Plus €149.99 a year | Not stated on its pricing page | Bank sync, 20,000 banks and brokerages | Your banks are not on its list |

Each row comes from that company's own site: [Kubera](https://www.kubera.com/), [TrackMyStack](https://trackmystack.app/), [Worth It](https://getworthit.com/), [PopaDex](https://www.popadex.com/), [Finary](https://finary.com/en/pricing). Prices change, so check before you pay.

## How to pick

- **You want it automatic and the price is fine:** Kubera. It runs several aggregators to reach banks and brokerages worldwide.
- **Your banks are mostly in Europe and you want sync:** check Finary's list for your banks first.
- **Mostly shares and funds, on your phone:** TrackMyStack.
- **Property, pensions and savings in several countries, free:** NetWorthTrackr. You type balances once a month; nothing needs a bank to be supported. See [trackers without a bank login](https://www.networthtrackr.com/net-worth-tracker-without-bank-login).
- **A short list of accounts and you want a phone app:** Worth It.

## Three habits that make the number honest

**Pick one home currency and stick to it.** Switching between pounds and euros month to month makes the trend line meaningless. Choose the currency of the life you are saving for.

**Separate currency moves from saving.** If the pound falls 5% against the euro, a UK pension shrinks in euros without you doing anything. Before you judge a month, check how much of the change was the exchange rate. In NetWorthTrackr, Analytics > Currency shows how much you hold in each currency and what a move would do to the total.

**Count pensions you cannot reach yet, but know they are locked.** A pension in a country you have left still counts toward net worth. It does not count toward money you can use soon; see [liquid net worth vs net worth](https://www.networthtrackr.com/liquid-net-worth).

## Where NetWorthTrackr fits, and where it does not

We built it for this case: accounts in several countries, kept in their own currency, converted nightly at European Central Bank rates into the currency you choose. Shares listed in the US, EU, UK, Germany and India price themselves. It is free and runs in any browser.

**Skip it if** you want balances to appear without typing them, or you need budgeting and transactions. It does neither. More on the currency side in [multi-currency net worth tracking](https://www.networthtrackr.com/multi-currency-net-worth-tracker).

## Common questions

### What is the best net worth tracker for expats?

It depends on whether you want bank sync. Kubera ($250 a year) syncs banks in many countries. If you are happy to type balances monthly, NetWorthTrackr is free and handles 31 currencies; TrackMyStack suits a share-heavy portfolio on a phone.

### Which currency should I track my net worth in?

The one you expect to spend in later, usually where you plan to retire. Keep each account in its own currency and let the app convert, so exchange-rate moves show up instead of being frozen at the day you added the account.

### Can I connect banks in different countries to one app?

Only if the app’s aggregator covers every one of them. Kubera and Finary cover the most; US-focused apps like Empower and Monarch cover North America only. Many expats end up with at least a few accounts entered by hand anyway.

### Does a pension in another country count toward my net worth?

Yes, if it has a balance you can see. Count it in its own currency. It is not liquid, because you usually cannot take it out before that country’s pension age.

### Why did my net worth drop when I did nothing?

Probably an exchange rate. If part of your money is in a currency that fell against your home currency, the converted total falls too. Check how much you hold in each currency before reading too much into one month.
